The Great White Egret Mating Dance

Beginning with their elongated necks the male egret initiates his mesmerizing dance, contorting his elongated neck into a dramatic, backward S-curve while pointing his dagger-like bill straight to the heavens.

With his lone, gossamer feathery plumes- the magnificent airgettes-beautifull fanned out like a crest of spun glass, he suddenly outsstretches his neck to its absolute limits before snapping it back down into a low crouching posture. Over and over he repeats his pulsing rhythmic cadence, pausing only briefly to delicately preen his elegant plumes before surrendering once more to the hypnotic rhythm.
 

The male egret will do this dance numerous times and then stop for a brief time in between to preen his long feathery plumes.

I find this courtship behavior to be completely mesmerizing. I love the elegantly graceful fanning of the beautifully long plumes.
