For three weeks, I watched this swan family’s quiet fight against the odds. Early in the month, five fluffy cygnets trailed closely behind their mother and father. Day by day, nature took its heavy toll, leaving her with just one lone survivor.

On this brutally hot afternoon, the relentless sun proved too much for the remaining little one. They managed to find a shaded area by the water's edge.

The little cygnet eventually drifted into the cool, sheltering shade of its mother’s body. Momma layed there frozen—a fierce, protective shield against a blistering world.

Despite her devastating loss, a beautiful warmth remained in her eyes as she looked down at her last baby. In that exact moment of absolute devotion, I pressed the shutter to capture this raw piece of fine art swan photography.
